SOME TAXI DRIVERS

2014 - Ongoing

A long-term project that portrays the individuals of an essential and global profession, which has existed, largely unchanged since the 17th century.

Disruption is here though, and technology’s double edged sword has made light work of carving up taxi industries worldwide. While the advent of tech companies like Uber and Bolt has decimated the structures that once underpinned urban transport in cities across the globe, it has simultaneously given millions of individuals access to a vocation they likely wouldn’t have found themselves in otherwise.

Making portraits of drivers that are largely part of the traditional framework of services in their cities is an attempt to acknowledge them as individuals and create a catalogue of sorts, as we hurtle towards a techno-future that has no interest in the value of labour nor the spice of variety.

The ongoing project currently includes photographs and quotes from drivers in over thirty countries, ranging from motorbikes to mini-buses.
